Prep Time: 20 mins | Total Time: 30 mins | Serves: 9

Ingredients

  • 1 cup cornmeal

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 tablespoon baking powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup milk

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter

  • 2 large eggs

Instructions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 400 °F (200 ºC). Grease an 8-inch square baking dish or a 9-inch round cake pan.

Step 2

In a large bowl, whisk together the cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

Step 3

In another bowl, mix the milk, melted butter, and eggs until well combined.

Step 4

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; the batter should be a bit lumpy.

Step 5

Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish or pan, spreading it evenly.

Step 6

Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Step 7

Allow the cornbread to cool slightly before cutting into squares or wedges. Serve warm, ideally with butter and honey.
