Classic Bread Stuffing

Updated: Jan 31

This stuffing is the real deal – golden on top, fluffy and herby on the inside, and full of proper cozy flavors!

Prep Time: 15 mins | Total Time: 50 mins | Serves: 10

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons butter

  • 1 medium onion, diced

  • 2 celery stalks, diced

  • 1 loaf of bread, torn into pieces (about 8 cups)

  • 1 - 2 cups chicken broth, divided

  • 2 large eggs

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • 1/4 cup fresh dill, chopped

Instructions

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

Step 2

In a non-stick pan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the onion and celery, sautéing until golden and softened. Transfer the mixture to a large mixing bowl.

Step 3

Begin adding torn bread pieces to the bowl, alternating with a splash of chicken broth and an egg. Continue adding bread, broth, and eggs until all ingredients are combined. Mix well to ensure a moist, cohesive texture, similar to bread pudding.

Step 4

Season with salt and pepper to taste, then add the chopped dill. Stir until all ingredients are well incorporated.

Step 5

Transfer the stuffing mixture to a shallow baking dish, spreading it out evenly. Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crispy.
