Perp Time: 10 mins | Total Time: 30 mins | Serves: 8
Ingredients
5lbs russet potatoes, peeled and cut into large chunks
1/2 cup milk
4 tablespoons butter, unsalted
salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
Step 1
Place the potato chunks in a large pot and add enough cold water to cover them by about an inch. Add a pinch of salt to the water to season the potatoes as they cook.
Step 2
ring the pot to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to a simmer and cook the potatoes until they’re very tender, about 15-20 minutes. You can test them by piercing with a fork; they should break apart easily when done.
Step 3
Drain the potatoes thoroughly and return them to the pot. Mash the potatoes using a potato masher or ricer until smooth and lump-free.
Step 4
Add the butter to the hot potatoes and stir until melted and fully incorporated. Then, gradually add the milk, stirring constantly, until you reach your desired creamy consistency.
Step 5
Add salt and pepper to taste, mixing well. Adjust seasonings as needed. Transfer the mashed potatoes to a serving bowl and, if you like, top with an extra pat of butter and a sprinkle of black pepper or fresh herbs.
